METRO Testing Rapid Transit Service Through Uptown District
METRO has begun test runs of a new transportation option which combines the elements of light rail and bus service with hopes of a summer 2020 rollout. The METRORapid Silver Line will offer expedited bus service will run along Post Oak Boulevard from the Northwest Transit Center to the Westpark/Lower Uptown Transit Center, through the Galleria area. Some of these transit centers are still under construction.
The METRORapid will use dedicated bus-only lanes to move through traffic and will have priority traffic lights according to METRO. The line will also feature a more modern design with enhanced accessibility, with wider doorways and level boarding since the service will use stations and rail-like platforms.
The first phase of testing will run through June and METRO is tentatively scheduling service to begin mid-August.
