Buffalo Bayou Park's spanking new Water Works the coolest open air venue in town

Add one more jewel to the city's Buffalo Bayou Park crown. The Water Works, a stunning outdoor entertainment venue, has just opened and already the space is booked for numerous events including fundraisers such as the Catholic Charities soirée that inaugurated the space last weekend.

The slightly elevated site with unmatched views of the downtown skyline had guests swooning over the views and the unexpected amenities.

The Water Works ensemble begins with the Wortham Insurance Visitor Center and Terrace at Sabine Street, where visitors will find restrooms and a bike rental facility. On weekends, the entry court is expected to be a lively scene with food trucks.

A gentle climb along a wide stairway leads to the top of a partially buried water reservoir. Here, the Brown Foundation Lawn, richly planted with green grass and outlined in trees, provides an ideal locale for a party tent while the Hobby Family Pavilion can serve as party central, reception area or stage for entertainers.

The Buffalo Bayou Partnership is responsible for the site (as well as the entire park) that serves as a grand entry point to the city's premiere greenspace. The enchanting development is the result of reclaiming a four-acre abandoned City of Houston water system site.

The Water Works also serves as entry to the park's new cistern site.

The partnership tapped SWA landscape designers to assist with plotting the layout while Page architects created the stunning pavilion and visitor center.
