Houston Marathon and Half Marathon Go Virtual for 2021

Race organizers announced this week that the Houston Marathon and Half Marathon will be virtual races in 2021. Citing health concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marathon Committee said there were just too many "unknowns" for them to safety put on the annual event.

Participants will be able to complete their race anytime between January 8-17, 2021 and submit timing information through an online account. Those who had already registered for 2021 can opt to participate along with a discount for the 2022 race - the 50th anniversay - or to defer entry to 2022 or 2023. The option to donate their entry fee to the Houston Marathon Committee is also an option.

“The decision to cancel the 2021 Chevron Houston Marathon is incredibly disappointing for everyone, but it is the right course to follow because of the pandemic,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said.
